PSA/Hansard Society Annual Lecture 2010
Deputy Prime Minister, Rt Hon Nick Clegg MP
Vision for Political Reform
The fourth Political Studies Association/ Hansard Society Annual Lecture took place in the evening of Tuesday 16 November 2010 at the Attlee
Suite, Portcullis House, London. We were delighted to welcome our first Liberal Democrat speaker - the Deputy Prime Minister the Rt Hon Nick Clegg MP - who
used the Annual Lecture to announce government plans for political and constitutional reform. His starting point was that the political system is out of
step with modern life, and requires a 'fundamental rewiring of power'.

Professor Vicky Randall,
Chair of the Political Studies Association, with the Deputy Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Nick Clegg MP
and Fiona Booth, Hansard Society Chief Executive
As ever, the Annual Lecture was well attended by academics, political researchers and journalists which created a packed venue and standing
room only for those arriving last. The key messages that the Deputy Prime Minister focused upon were:
- Further constitutional reform -
including changes to the electoral register process and constituency boundary reviews
- Decentralisation
- Defending civil liberties
After a focused speech the Deputy Prime Minister enthusiastically engaged in a Question and Answer session covering topics as diverse as political
scrutiny, leadership, trust, university fees, and local/central political control.
