Overseas conference grants 2009

The PSA’s External Relations and Conference Grants Sub-committee is promoting internationalisation in the political science profession. We are building on our relationships with our global ‘sister’ political science associations by providing grants for PSA members to present papers at their major meetings, conferences or congresses. Application is by email only to psa@ncl.ac.uk. You will need to follow the guidelines and conditions set out below.

1. You must be a current Political Studies Association member.

2. Your funding is limited to accepted-paper presentation only at conferences/meetings/ congresses held by political science associations (only) outside Europe . Preference will be given to applications for associations with which the Political Studies Association already has links, e.g.:

- American PSA (meetings 2009, including ‘regionals’)

- Japan PSA (September 2009)

- Korean PSA (meeting August or early December 2009)

- Australian PSA (meeting late-June 2009)

- New Zealand PSA (meeting September 2009)

- IPSA (World Congress July 2009)

- Hellenic PSA (meeting May 2009)

- other associations (e.g. Canadian) will be also be considered.

3. Your email application must be accompanied by a brief and relevant CV.

4. You must NOT have received Political Studies Association conference or research meeting support in the past three years. All Political Studies Association grants, including these, will give preference to first-time applications.

5. You must list other pending and successful applications for the same meeting/conference/ congress, as partial funding will be the norm. Association grants are limited to £500 maximum (£750 in the case of IPSA).

6. You will be paid only against receipts after the event, or in advance, only against invoices, and in the latter case, actual receipts (from airlines, hotels etc., not just credit card statements) MUST be submitted to the Political Studies Association within 6 weeks following the event. Your claim must be supported by documented evidence of paper-acceptance (e.g. email acknowledgement or photocopy of printed programme). If one receipt (e.g., air travel) is being funded from more than one source, the PSA must have a copy of the relevant receipt or invoice with a written breakdown as to the financial payments for all bodies drawn against that amount. Only travel and accommodation will be covered, not subsistence or conference registration or membership fees for other associations.

Applications must be by email to psa@ncl.ac.uk by stated deadlines, and decisions will be made by the External Relations and Conference Grants Subcommittee in conjunction with Political Studies Association’s management group.
