These are the guidelines, eligibility, criteria and nomination process for the Academic Research Prizes.
Eligibility:
- For the Richard Rose Prize the nominee must be a member of the PSA. The nominee must normally be within 10 years from completion of their PhD (or equivalent). This eligibility period can be extended in cases of career interruptions (e.g., maternity/parental leave; caring responsibilities; illness; unemployment)
- For the Carole Pateman Prize, the nominee must be a member of the PSA
- For the Pippa Norris Prize, at least one member of the named research team must be a member of the PSA
Nomination Process:
Nominations must be made by 1 December 2025 via the online nomination form
The nomination may be submitted by:
- Another PSA member
- Head of Department or another senior colleague.
The nomination must include the following uploads:
For Richard Rose Prize and Carole Pateman Prize:
- CV of nominee (as a PDF or Microsoft Word doc)
- Two-page supporting statement summarising achievement of the candidate in relation to the prize
- Copies of up to three research outputs, or links to open access versions of those outputs, produced by the nominee.
For Pippa Norris Prize:
- CVs for all named members of the research team (as PDF or Microsoft Word docs)
- Two-page supporting statement summarising achievement of the research team in relation to the prize
- Copies of up to three research outputs, or links to open access versions of those outputs, produced by the nominated research team.
Judging Process:
The research prizes will be judged by the Academic Prizes Committee chaired by a member of the PSA’s Executive Committee. The committee chair is responsible for overseeing the committee response, coordinating internal discussions, and communicating the outcome and rationale of the committee’s decision to the PSA team.
Judges will be provided with the supporting documents included with the nomination.
Judges will not be provided with information regarding details of career interruptions (if applicable) – this will only be seen by the PSA Team to confirm a nominee’s eligibility and will remain confidential.
