One of the emerging themes from the PSA’s 2025+ strategy consultation  during 2024 is support for the association’s position as the home of Political Studies; open to all those teaching, studying, and researching Politics and International Relations in the widest sense - both in UK university departments and beyond.

PSA members have told us they feel that a number of fields are currently underrepresented within the association’s range of  Specialist Groups and so, in response to these drivers, PSA trustees would like to hear expressions of interest in creating a new International Relations Specialist Group.

International Relations is a major Political Science sub-discipline concerned with studying the relations of states with each other and with international organisations, subnational bodies, and non-state actors. This new specialist group will allow PSA Members to network and collaborate, particularly those interested in - but not exclusively - geopolitics, foreign policy, migration, war, peace and conflict studies, international political economy, communications, climate change and global public health.

*Please let us know by 5pm on Friday 8 November 2024 via specialistgroups@psa.ac.uk if you are interested in being a convenor or a member of this new group or require further information on this opportunity.*

The International Relations Specialist Group has the scope to work with our existing family of national, regional and topic-based groups as well as our suite of esteemed academic journals. This would be the first in a series of new, or refreshed, specialist groups arising from our strategic review in the interests of further representing the diversity of our discipline and membership.

We would be happy to offer the incoming group convenors the opportunity to launch with a panel or roundtable, at our forthcoming PSA25 Annual Conference  in Birmingham in April ‘25.
