Evidence strongly suggests that trust in political leadership is low in many Western polities. If we are to understand the dislocation between leaders, parties, institutions and the electorate we need to understand questions of contemporary democratic leadership. This panel explores notions of memory, rhetoric and style in the theory and practice of contemporary political leadership. Drawing on contemporary examples from Australia, the US and France in particular, this panel will explore how these aspects of leadership impact on policy outcomes and success in office.
