PSA Annual Heads of Department Conference

This key PSA event is an opportunity for Heads of Politics Departments across the UK to convene and discuss issues which impact upon the discipline and across the social sciences.


The conference programme is available to view here and the following themes were covered:

  • The Impact of Brexit (the implications for Brexit for higher education and political studies and the wider political and economic impact)
  • Developments in Research Funding (promoting upcoming calls; advising on funding strategies, including engaging with the Global Challenges Research Fund agenda; and longer-term thinking and perspectives) 
  • Teaching Excellence Framework (focussing on subject-level TEF in broader terms and specifically in relation to politics departments; TEF as part of a broader programme of reform)
  • The Future of the Research Excellence Framework (assessing the likley shape of the future REF; evaluating the independent review by Lord Stern; issues relating to research assessment, impact and engagement and presenting evidence and research in the public sphere) 
  • PSA Plans and Initiatives
