Promoting EDI in the PSA - Political Studies Association

Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) both in the PSA and in the Political Studies discipline is at the heart of all we do. From our journals and conferences through to our prizes and governance, we have taken steps to make our work more inclusive and welcoming to scholars, students and practitioners from all backgrounds. However, there is still much to do to increase representation and opportunities in the PSA and beyond. The PSA remains committed to advancing EDI as demonstrated in its recent strategy.

Our Strategic Plan

Our 2025-2028 strategic plan, informed by previous strategies and the views of our members, sets out the PSA’s initative for 2028 as a learned society. One of our core values inclusivity and diversity; where one of our goals is to advocate for Political Studies and represent those who study, teach, and research politics and international relations.

EDI Films

The Political Studies Association is proud to share our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Video Series, bringing together EDI voices from across our community.

These short films shows contributors reflecting on what Equality, Diversity and Inclusion means to them, why it matters, and the challenges the discipline still faces.

Active Bystander

At the Political Studies Association, we are committed to fostering an environment that is accessible and inclusive to all. To achieve this, we encourage our members and guests to be part of our efforts in ensuring everyone feels welcome to the PSA by being an active bystander.

Diverse Voices

Diverse Voices is one of PSA’s initiatives that support historically marginalised scholars currently undertaking PhD study in politics and international relations.

The PSA select PhD students to sponsor who are in their 2nd, 3rd or final year and who self-identified as Black, Asian, or minority ethnic based in UK and studying at a UK university.

We are committed to the promotion of equality of opportunity for all and we aim to reflect this in all our policies, practices, and procedures.

To make this meaningful we need reliable and comprehensive data on funding, recruitment, and participation in our activities. This helps us monitor the effectiveness of our policies and make changes where necessary.
