The Politics and Policy in Southeast and East Asia Specialist Group will be running a joint PSA/APSA workshop in Washington DC at The Centennial Center for Political Science and Public Affairs on the 12th September 2017.
The “Bridging the Gaps ‘Informing Policy-Makers - Engaging with a Non-Academic Audience’” event will explore the ways that academics can frame academic research for non-academic audiences, disseminate findings to reach wider audiences, to forge collaborative links with these groups, and to build professional networks outside academia. The workshop will explore the unique and common challenges academics face, and provide a forum to encourage and facilitate interdisciplinarity, but also to provide the opportunity for participants to review these challenges from the perspectives of both the North American and United Kingdoms’ academic environments. What makes this event unique is that it will be practical skills based, sharing knowledge on how to obtain impact and forge practitioner-academic relationships. The aim is to discuss and share best practice on how scholars may work with policymakers to impact their chosen policy area.
