A HALF-CENTURY OF BRITISH POLITICS: CELEBRATING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BRITISH POLITICS GROUP

To mark the 50th anniversary of the of the British Politics Group, we will be holding a one-day conference prior to the APSA conference in Vancouver.

The UK confronts perpetual crises – inflation, low growth, strains on public finances, challenges of immigration, and rising social unrest, with governments seeming unable to handle these problems and increasing discontent among the electorate. Ironically, such descriptions fit Britain in 1975 as much as in 2025. This conference reflects on the transformation of Britain’s people, politics, and place in the world since the BPG was founded. We seek both reflective roundtables and traditional paper panels. We would particularly appreciate established scholars who can invite younger scholars, including graduate students, to join them in participating.

Paper proposals can be submitted individually. Full panel submissions are preferred. Submissions should include name, institutional affiliation, and e-mail contact (during the summer months). For roundtables, we only need the topic and participants’ names. For paper submissions, please provide an abstract of no more than three hundred words.

All submissions should be forwarded to Terrence Casey, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, casey1@rose-hulman.edu no later than 20 June 2025. Further information about the event and the BPG can be found at https://britishpoliticsgroup.com/
