This panel collects together a number of papers which consider the ways in which participatory and deliberative democracy relies on communication, between citizens, experts, witnesses and other actors. By considering both the ways in which participants and audiences react to democratic encounters, and the changing technologies through which democracy is communicated, the contributions to this panel is panel shed new light on democratic theory and practice.
