Being a new university teacher comes with an intensive learning curve. We have to learn to plan lessons as well as think about aims and objectives; structure; different types of small group activity; the background of those we are teaching to make sure we effectively consider EDI issues and the type of learners we might be dealing with.  

This all can be tricky – even more so when we start teaching methods and quantitative analysis . . . 

Then we face additional problem: statistics anxiety for our students; those who haven’t thought about numeracy since their GCSEs (or equivalent) – as well as often dissenting views about the value and importance of learning methods. 

These represent challenges that all new methods teachers face. We often have little in the way of other colleagues who are teaching these things to turn to and that can make it, at times, a slightly lonely environment.  

This session is designed to help us build a community. Lets talk about the issues we face in teaching methods, trouble-shoot common problems and explore some excellent resources that can help make teaching methods a better experience for both ourselves as staff, but also our students.
