It is with great sadness and a sense of shock that the news of Joanna’s untimely passing has been received by all her many friends and associates in the academic community. Joanna served for several years as a Trustee on the Executive Committee of the PSA from 2001, being re-elected in 2003 and 2006. During that period, Joanna was responsible for Media & Communications between 2002 and 2006, and for Specialist Groups between 2007 and 2008. Joanna was well known for her friendly disposition and bubbly personality, which was always guaranteed to raise a laugh in our many encounters. Never afraid to speak her mind, her interventions were characterised by a good humour and decency which endeared her to colleagues and students alike. Although she stood down from the Executive on completion of her third term in 2009, Joanna remained a regular participant in our events.

On behalf of all of us in the PSA, we extend our deepest sympathy to Joanna’s family and close friends at this time.
