PSA Trustee Professor Terrell Carver has be re-elected to the IPSA Executive Committee for a further two-year term, and also appointed one (of five) Vice Presidents.

PSA thanks other members of the voting delegation for their loyal service at some very long (and some very short!) meetings by making themselves available very punctually on a rota. Delegates included Matt Matravers (York), Elizabeth Evans (Bristol), Umut Korkut (Glasgow Caledonian), Fernando Casal Bertoa (Nottingham) and Kate Dommett (Sheffield).

Aiji Tanaka from Japan PSA was elected President by acclamation, and a further 15 places on the Executive Committee were filled by competitive ballot.

The next World Congress will be in Istanbul in July 2016.

PSA member Pippa Norris received the prestigious Karl Deutsch Award at the IPSA World Congress in Montreal. After receiving the award she delivered a plenary lecture, ‘When do elections fail, and why does this matter?’ to an over-capacity audience. She is currently working on a trio of books for Cambridge University Press tackling this and related questions on a global scale.

The Rt Hon Carwyn Jones, AM and First Minister of Wales, delivered a plenary lecture at the IPSA World Congress in Montreal. This was a lively account of his views on current constitutional issues and possible future developments in the United Kingdom. He was introduced by Terrell Carver to a large audience, noting the international scope of the issues involved. After answering some frank and forthright questions, he was presented with a gift from IPSA, thanking him for his participation.
