The Political Studies Association fully supports our University and College Union (UCU) members in their continuing strike action over the Universities Superannuation Scheme.

Today the PSA will support their commitment by making a contribution to the UCU hardship fund which the UCU uses to
support members involved in disputes, including the provision of strike pay where appropriate.

The PSA respects the hard work and dedication of academic and professional services staff who have made a significant financial sacrifice during this strike in pursuit of a fair pension and financial security upon retirement. 

While the PSA agrees with Universities UK that “it is hugely disappointing that students education is disrupted” it believes further disruption could be easily avoided with a fair and rational assessment of the pension scheme.

We urge Universities UK to recognise and respond to the significant risk this strike poses to students, to universities, to current UCU members and to the academic profession both now and in the future.
