Vacancy: Events and Marketing Manager

The Political Studies Association is the leading organisation in the UK linking academics in political science and political theory with politicians, policy-makers, journalists, researchers and students.

You will be responsible for managing and promoting the Political Studies Association’s growing programme of conferences and events, to ensure that they run smoothly, to budget and enhance the reputation and public profile of the Association, and for the marketing strategy and all associated marketing materials to promote engagement with the Association by a wide range of stakeholder groups.

Main responsibilities include:

Organising, managing and developing the PSA’s rich and varied programme of events. Existing events include:

  • The PSA Annual International Conference, held over 3 days in the spring at different venues across the UK and attracting around 600-800 delegates.
  • The Annual PSA Awards Ceremony for 150-200 VIP guests, including senior politicians, broadcasters and journalists, held in the late autumn in London and broadcast by the BBC.
  • Media briefings for journalists and producers held in London at such times as academic analysis and insight can inform coverage of key political issues and events such as local and national elections and the EU referendum.
  • The Annual PSA Academic and Public Lectures, held in collaboration with partners such as the British Library.

Formulating and implementing the Associations’ marketing strategy, collaborating with colleagues to articulate key marketing messages and working with external agencies to design and produce marketing collateral. 

 

Your profile:

  • At least two year’s event management and co-ordination experience including large-scale conferences with over 1,000 delegates and exhibitors.
  • A track record of identifying suppliers and venues and negotiating favourable contract terms.
  • Experience raising revenues for an event including sponsorship and advertising.
  • Experience formulating market strategies, articulating key marketing messages and identifying and managing design agencies in the production of marketing collateral.
  • Experience managing and monitoring budgets.
  • Experience of establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with, amongst others, conference organising teams, service providers such as venue staff, designers and printers, exhibitors, media, advertisers and sponsors.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Good working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and other desktop publishing packages.
  • Confidence working with sophisticated online event management systems.
  • Basic web skills including the ability to upload text and images to a website and manage external engagements through websites and online social networks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with experience of copywriting and proofreading.
  • Scrupulous attention to detail.
  • Undergraduate degree.
