"PSA 15 was a great learning experience"

Xian Ling BAEY from the National University of Singapore reflects on her trip to the 2015 PSA Annual Conference in Sheffield...

The 65th PSA Annual International Conference was an insightful experience for me. Two particular episodes stand out. The first was Professor Dryzek's talk on Deliberative World. I especially appreciated how he wove together different strands of political science (such as how deliberative democracy could be considered in terms of political theory, comparative politics and international relations) during his talk with great eloquence. As I am interested in discovering how the various subfields can engage each other for greater synergy, Professor Dryzek's talk provided much food for thought. The second highlight was receiving constructive feedback during my panel session. It was my first time presenting on an academic panel as a graduate student, and I was both excited and nervous. Thankfully both the audience and my fellow panel members were gracious in their comments, with Dr Rod Dacombe and Professor John Gastil providing especially illuminating remarks. In sum, I would recommend the PSA as an exciting opportunity for anyone looking to gain exposure to a great range of work and a supportive environment for one to improve upon one's scholarship. Finally, I would also like to thank the team at PSA for making my participation possible. Without the funding support and administrative assistance provided, I would not have been able to attend. It was a great learning experience.
