Seminars for Schools

As a PSA teacher member, you are invited to take advantage of our speakers programme for schools.

Academics from across the politics discipline are available to visit your school free of charge to give lectures to your students on any subject of your choice related to the A level or Higher curriculum. The PSA will pay all travel costs, even where these exceed the costs of teacher membership.

Previous lectures have covered issues including:

  • UK core executive (PM/Cabinet) and the coalition government
  • The Arab Spring
  • Pressure group activity
  • People, participation and politics
  • International Relations & political parties in the USA
  • US politics
  • Voting behaviour
  • US Supreme Court
  • Studying politics at university

You can read about Dr. Cathy Gormley Heenan, of the University of Ulster and a Trustee of the Political Studies Association, recent visit to Sacred Heart Grammar School in Newry, Co. Down here.

We have received very positive feedback from those teacher members who have had a lecture at their school, for example:

"Just to say many thanks for linking us up with Jennifer Hudson from UCL. She delivered an excellent talk to our students and was really effective at unpicking the finer points of US campaign finance. We very grateful to her and hope she enjoyed her time at the school too." - The Portsmouth Grammar School

"Just to pass on my thanks for visiting Strode College and providing such interesting sessions for my AS/A2 G & P students. We all found them very stimulating and hopefully a number of the AS students will consider studying Politics at university. My thanks to the Political Studies Association for increasing their work with students in schools and Colleges. We all have a lot in common and need to promote the subject at all levels." Strode College, Somerset

"A short note to thank you for putting me in touch with Rosie Campbell of Birkbeck College who came in today to speak with our Sixth Form students about voting behaviour. Rosie was very engaging and our students found the talk both entertaining and informative. If Rosie, or any other speakers, are ever available again in future years, we would be very pleased to host a similar event again. Once again, thank you so much for your help with this." Nonsuch High School for Girls, Surrey

"Thank you for setting up a lecture with Dr Andrew Wroe – he was fantastic and the students gained an enormous amount from the experience. Love to repeat the exercise again some time!" Folkestone School for Girls

"Dr Moran’s visit to Rugby School was a roaring success. Thank you for helping to facilitate this." Rugby School

"Just an email to let you know we had a very successful visit from Raia last Friday which was pitched perfectly and much appreciate by the students involved. We would certainly be very interested in working with her again in the future." Magdalen College School, Brackley

Please note - the Seminars for Schools is only open to PSA affiliated schools.  Contact Jamie Roberts at  to register your interest - just detail a few ideas of topics for the lecture and when you would like the visit to take place.  Or join the PSA as a Teacher Member here.
