Tajik academic researcher Alexander Sodiqov, who had been employed by the University of Exeter to work with UK-based political scientists and geographers on an Economic and Social Research Council (UK) funded project, has returned to his family in Toronto after being arrested and detained in Tajikistan. The PSA had previously supported the campaign to return Alexander to his family and had pledged support to a petition calling for his unconditional release.

In a short message sent to the PSA by David W. Montgomery of the "Free Alex Sodiqov" campaign, Sodiqov's release was announced:

"Alex Sodiqov and his family are now in Toronto, with plans of resuming his studies soon! While he still remains under investigation and unable to safely return to Tajikistan, authorities released him in part due to the attention and support he received internationally".

Montgomery noted that "the support of PSA was an essential component of this -- one that cannot be understated -- and on behalf of The Coordinating Group of the Campaign 'Free Alex Sodiqov!', I want to thank you."
