Political Studies is the flagship peer-reviewed journal of the Political Studies Association (PSA). Since its inception seventy years ago the journal has remained at the forefront of its field, publishing rigorous and original work in all areas of the discipline. Political Studies is one of the top outlets for political science research – with a five-year impact factor of 2.884 and ranking 66/187 in Political Science (JCR, 2022).

Political Studies is not constrained by any particular methodological or theoretical framework and encourages a pluralistic approach to politics and international relations. Innovative submissions, which cross and challenge traditional discipline boundaries, reconsider the relationship between international and domestic politics or offer a fresh comparative perspective, are particularly welcome. Political Studies aims to develop the most promising work available, facilitate professional communication in political science and is committed to the highest standards of peer reviewing.

Applicants are invited to consider the following issues in their applications:

  • Attracting excellent submissions to Political Studies;
  • Maintaining and strengthening the journal’s impact factor;
  • Further internationalising the journal and its global profile in terms of author and readership base;
  • Increasing the number of high-quality article submissions and publications from around the world, particularly outside of the Euro-Atlantic corridor;
  • Increasing downloads of journal articles in all geographic territories;
  • Managing the day-to-day business of the journal, including the associated online and social media channels;
  • Raising the profile of the journal through social media and other marketing tools and measures;
  • Identifying and exploiting the synergies between the PSA’s journals and with the wider activities of the PSA;
  • How the editorial team will play an active role in implementing the PSA’s commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion – both within the composition of the editorial team, editorial board and the contents of the journal itself.

The closing date for applications is 6 February 2023. We anticipate conducting interviews in March 2023 with a view to making the appointment as soon as possible thereafter. The successful applicants will begin a handover with the current editorial team in April 2023 before taking the helm on 1 July 2023.
