Join us in 2022 to explore 'Politics from the Margins'

The PSA is delighted to announce that our 72nd conference will be convened by the University of York on 10-13 April 2022.

With sponsorship from our lead partners SAGE Publishing, this event will seek to explore Politics from the Margins. As the world recovers from one of its worst crises in a generation, issues, and actors hitherto at the margins of politics have forced their way to the mainstream. This 2022 PSA conference will take ‘the margins’ as a vantage point to investigate political issues and developments. The Conference invites reflection on shifting centres of power in the global, regional, national, and subnational political order.

The convening team will be led by Head of Department Professor Nina Caspersen alongside a team including Dr Sara de Jong and Dr Indrajit Roy, both Senior Lecturers at York's Department of Politics and in-coming co-directors of the York Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre. Professor Caspersen said: “We look forward to welcoming our friends from throughout the academic community and beyond to join us at the University of York for what promises to be a unique opportunity to further research agendas that seek to address the most pressing global challenges of our times and foreground perspectives that have often been marginalised". 

Michelle Doyle Wildman, the PSA’s Chief Executive, adds: “It is vital that the PSA continues to give the widest range of scholars and students the opportunity to develop their skills and enrich their knowledge. We are so looking forward to working with the inspiring and impressive University of York team to do just that”.

Looking forward to the conference, the Chair of the PSA, Professor Roger Awan-Scully, commented that: “Our York conference will offer to people, right across political studies, the opportunity to once again meet, present and explore ideas. I am already looking forward to the opportunity working with the York team in developing the conference programme over the next year - and then to experience some fascinating events and sessions.”
