The PSA/BISA Joint Working Group coordinates our disciplinary engagement with the REF process. This includes nominating REF panel members and responding to requests from HEFCE (now Research England). Prof. Martin Lodge chairs this group and has worked tirelessly to ensure a transparent and inclusive approach and process.

The Group responded to the most recent REF consultation on the draft guidance, criteria and working methods. Key issues they have flagged include the disclosure of personal circumstances in relation to achieving the equality & diversity objectives of the REF; the treatment of co-authored submissions; the need for consistency in the treatment of double-weighting by main panels C & D; and the definition of a ‘continuing case study’ in relation to impact.

The PSA would like to thank Prof. Lodge and other Working Group members for their on going work on behalf of the discipline.
