We are pleased to invite PSA members to submit pitches for Total Exposure - the initiative that brings international broadcasters and political scientists together to create TV and radio programmes that underline exactly why the study of politics matters.

The 2017/18 Handbook is now available to download here, with instructions on how to pitch, FAQs and what to expect on the day. Hard copies of this handbook will be delivered to all UK university Politics departments - please see your Head of Department.

The process is simple: Submit a one to two-page pitch, either individually or as a team. Pitches are then reviewed by our judging panel, and shortlisted candidates are invited to present a three minute pitch to our panel of experts from the BBC, Sky, and ITN at a Grand Pitching Event in London. If the broadcasters like your idea, they'll be in touch for further commissioning talks.

Deadline for submissions: 31 October 2017

Shortlist confirmed: 17 November 2017

Grand Pitching Event: 29 January 2018

Media Training - new for this year!

With the support of ESRC, we are now pleased to be offering a media training day for shortlisted pitchers to help them sell their ideas in a way that will appeal to the panel.

This will take place in central London on 8 December 2017, and costs will be covered for the successful candidates. This will also be an opportunity to hear from our Total Exposure Project Lead, Professor Cathy Gormley-Heenan, about her pitching and production experience!

Why enter Total Exposure?

As well as the prospect of securing your very own TV or radio show, Total Exposure is an excellent opportunity to consolidate your research, think beyond academia and develop your communication skills. Watch this short video to hear from 2017 entrants about their experience pitching to the expert panel.

Total Exposure success: Walls and Peace

Cathy Gormley-Heenan achieved success with the inaugural Total Exposure in 2016. Cathy has spent the past year recording on location in Belfast, Israel-West Bank, and the US-Mexican border. Her documentary, Peace and Walls, aired on BBC World Service in April 2017 and is available to listen to here.

For an informal chat with Cathy about her experience please email her on c.gormley@ulster.ac.uk.
