Mackenzie Book Prize 2025-26 Submissions Open
We are pleased to invite nominations for this prestigious prize
Now entering its 39th year, the PSA Mackenzie Book Prize is awarded annually to the best book in political science. We are seeking nominations for books published in the 2024 calendar year.
Last year’s winner was The Way the Money Goes. The Fiscal Constitution and Public Spending in the UK, by Barbara Piotrowska, Christopher Hood, Maia King and Iain McLean, published by Oxford University Press. You will find the book here.
Nominations may be submitted by publishers, heads of department, PSA specialist groups and by self-nomination from PSA members (supported by three other PSA members).
Nominations should be submitted digitally accompanied by a one-page supporting statement. Applicants, or their representatives, will be asked to submit at least one physical copy once the nominations close, potentially more dependent on the judges’ requirement.
Supporting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in our discipline is a key strategic priority for the PSA. Therefore, we would particularly welcome nominations from women, and from black and minority ethnic authors.
For details regarding the rules for submission, and to submit your nomination with a digital copy of the book, please click here.
The deadline for digital nominations is Friday 5 September 2025 (17:00 BST).
The winner will be announced during the PSA’s Annual International Conference taking place in Oxford from 30 March to 1 April 2026.
