PSA’s journals grow in impact, visibility & influence
The recently published 2024 Clarivate results show improvements in the rankings and impact factors for all four of the PSA’s journals.
In reaction to this outcome, PSA Chief Executive Michelle Doyle Wildman said: “The PSA Team of Trustees and staff are delighted to see this progress. This is testament to the skill and dedication of our journal editorial teams, the impactful work of our authors, the support of our reviewer community and our ongoing and effective partnership with SAGE Publishing. These results cement our status as the home of Political Studies. I would encourage colleagues from across Politics and International Relations to lean into the opportunities the PSA’s journals provide for developing and harnessing our discipline.”
Taking each of our journals in turn:

British Journal of Politics and International Relations (BJPIR)
New impact factor: 3.4
Rankings:
14/169 for International Relations
36/322 for Political Science
“As the Editors of BJPIR we are delighted with the journal’s new impact factor of 3.4 which places us 14th in the International Relations journal rankings and in the top quartile of Politics journals. BJPIR remains committed to publishing cutting-edge research at the frontiers of IR and Political Studies. Addressing the politics of global challenges remains paramount in today’s turbulent era and we are pleased to have supported work in a range of vital areas, including on climate change, health security, and conflict. Research on populism has been particularly well cited and remains so important to today’s politics. Our new impact factor coincides with the release of a celebratory special issue marking the journal’s 25th anniversary The British Journal of Politics and International Relations - Volume 27, Number 2 which includes reflections on urgent global challenges, as well as the journal’s role in the disciplines, helping to shape political debate in the next quarter century.”

Politics
New impact factor: 2.5
Rankings:
28/169 for International Relations
63/322 for Political Science
On learning of these results the journal editors said: “The increase in our impact factor score can be attributed to the publication of high-quality articles on contemporary political issues such as the rise of populism and polarisation, (mis)governing the climate crisis, racial justice as well as to our growing suite of publications on teaching politics and pedagogic innovation in the field. We would like to thank all of our authors for the contributions they have made to the journal and field of politics over the past years as well as to our reviewers for helping to guide and challenge our authors to produce truly innovative work.”

The Portsmouth-led editorial team is really proud and excited to build on that legacy - looking to broaden PSR’s reach further through a range of submission formats, diverse voices, and the fostering of interdisciplinary dialogue, including with the PSA’s Specialist Groups."
